MailGate Support Issues
Q. How do I set up an IMAP proxy?
A. If you wish to set up a client machine to collect from an IMAP server, you can do this as follows:
In MailGate...
- Click on Edit | New | Custom proxy.
- Give the proxy a Title (e.g. 'IMAP proxy').
- Set the 'This proxy listens on port' field to '143'.
- Set the drop-down menu to 'Stream Connections'.
- Set the 'Valid requests are passed to' field to the name of the remote IMAP server, and the 'on port' field to '143'.
- Click OK.
- To initialize the new proxy, stop the MailGate service by clicking on the red traffic light icon, and restart by clicking on the green traffic light icon.
In your e-mail client...
- Set the IMAP server as the IP address of MailGate.
- Set the account name and password to the IMAP account you wish to collect from.
When you send/receive from the e-mail client, it should access the account via the IMAP proxy.
NOTE: If you're accessing IMAP over SSL, replace the port number '143' with '993'.
