Q. How do I set up the FreeCap Socks client to work with MailGate?
A. Details of how to download and install FreeCap with MailGate can be found below.

FreeCap Socks Client
FreeCap is an application that resides on any client machine needing to use the Socks protocol. FreeCap intercepts the networking calls from WinSock applications and redirects them through the Socks server without any modification to the original applications or to the operating system software or drivers.

The way that Socks access is provided is that any applications requiring Socks access will need to be added individually to the FreeCap Control Panel, and will need to be initiated from within it (by double-clicking it's icon from within the FreeCap Control Panel).

MailGate Setup
In MailGate, click on Gateway | Setup, and select the Socks tab. Enable either version 4 or 5 (5 is recommended).

Downloading FreeCap
You can download SocksCap from www.freecap.ru/eng/?p=download.

When downloaded, run the Installation file on any machines that require the Socks client. Configuration instructions can be found below.

Setup
  1. Click on File | Setings.
  2. Enter the IP address of MailGate into the "Default Proxy" field, and set the port to "1080".
  3. Select the version of Socks that you wish to use (we recommend version 5).
  4. Select the 'Program' tab at the top of the window, and at the bottom of the window select 'Local then remote'.
  5. Click OK when done.
Adding an application
  1. On the main screen, click File | New, then click the Browse button.
  2. Find the location of the application you wish to run through Socks, and double-click on it.
  3. If you want the application to run when FreeCap starts, check the 'Run program at FreeCap startup' box.
  4. Click OK.
  5. The application will then be added to FreeCap, and you can run it by double-clicking on the icon in the main screen.
Running FreeCap at system startup
  1. Click on File | Settings.
  2. Select 'Program' from the menu on the left.
  3. Check the 'Run at system startup' box.
